However, this newfound freedom came with a price. The waiver stipulated that players must agree to pay outstanding fines, reportedly amounting to a hefty £2.5 million, which were levied for participating in LIV events without the DP World Tour's prior consent. On top of that, they had to withdraw all pending appeals and commit to playing in a specific number of DP World Tour tournaments. It's a package deal that some are finding hard to swallow.
Rahm, a two-time major champion, has made it clear that he is 'not going to agree' to these particular conditions. While he's open to finding common ground, he suggested that a compromise might be possible if the number of required DP World Tour events were reduced. "I don't know what game they're trying to play right now," he remarked, expressing his bewilderment.
He elaborated on his feelings, stating, "But it just seems like in a way they're using us to (capitalize on) our impact in tournaments and fining us and trying to benefit both ways from what we have to offer. And it's just in a way they're extorting players like myself and young players that have nothing to do with the politics of the game." This sentiment highlights a perceived double standard and a feeling of being exploited.
But here's where it gets controversial... Rahm revealed a specific point of negotiation: "Now, I did tell them, funny enough, lower that to four events, like the minimum says, and I'll sign tonight." He continued, "They haven't agreed to that. I just refuse to play six events. I don't want to, and that's not what the rules say." This refusal to play a higher number of events, despite the tour's demands, is a clear stance.
