The Energy Supplier Showdown: Which? Reveals the UK's Top and Bottom Performers
In a recent annual ranking by the consumer group Which?, some of the UK's biggest energy suppliers have been named and shamed for their poor performance. But here's where it gets controversial... some of these well-known companies are letting their customers down, according to the survey.
Scottish Power, EDF, and British Gas, the giants of the energy industry, all received overall scores of less than 60% and just two stars in the customer satisfaction survey. Scottish Power, in particular, received the lowest score of 56%, struggling with complaint handling. EDF and British Gas followed closely behind, with issues ranging from limited customer service hours to difficulties in resolving complaints.
And this is the part most people miss: fixed tariffs are now consistently cheaper than the energy price cap, so there's no excuse for poor service or value for money. Customers are voting with their feet, and these suppliers need to step up their game.
But not all hope is lost! E (Gas and Electricity) emerged as the top performer, scoring an impressive 79% and receiving four stars for its customer service, contact ease, and clear statements. Nearly 9 out of 10 E customers would recommend the provider, a testament to its excellence.
Octopus Energy came in second with a score of 74%, closely followed by 100Green and Sainsbury's Energy at 72% and 71% respectively. Co-op Energy and Outfox Energy also performed well, but didn't quite reach the top spots.
Which? surveyed almost 12,000 energy customers and conducted an in-depth assessment of 17 energy firms' practices. Emily Seymour, Energy Editor at Which?, said, "Our research shows that while some suppliers are excelling, others are failing their customers. It's time for these big firms to improve or risk losing their customers entirely."
